Overview
The Bodyguard is a role intended for keeping Town aligned roles alive. If a player the Bodyguard selected at night is attacked, the Bodyguard and the attacker die instead, with the selected player unharmed.
- E.g. the Sheriff is attacked by the Serial Killer after the Bodyguard chose to protect the Sheriff. The Serial Killer and the Bodyguard will die, but the Sheriff will be unharmed.
Strategies
- A common strategy is to protect whoever has revealed themselves as Sheriff, Investigator, or even Doctor; the Mayor is an especially good target to protect since under standard settings Doctors can't heal him. Typically it is a good idea to protect any Town role, as the killing off of an evil role can be invaluable to keeping up the Town's numbers.
- If the ability to ignore invulnerability is enabled, feel free to protect people from the first night on. Otherwise, it may be a sound strategy to wait until there is an important Town role to save, as you may die for nothing on Night 1 if you die protecting a Mafia from an invulnerable Serial Killer.
- If at all possible, Bodyguards should take care not to protect someone being attacked by a Town role, such as the Vigilante. Both the Bodyguard and the Vigilante will die. If possible, Bodyguards should be wary of who the Bus Driver is driving, as the Bodyguard may inadvertently save someone he or she do not mean to, and die for nothing.
- A Bodyguard, in an attempt to kill a killing role quickly, could pretend to play Jester and outright announce who he or she will 'attack' that night. A killer could try and frame the Bodyguard as a 'killer' by going to attack the Bodyguard's target, thus killing the Bodyguard and the attacker!
- Watch for color names / red for night 1 protection, killers tend to sometime hit those the first night.
Options
- Ignores invulnerability - (Default: On)
- Cannot be healed - (Default: On)
- Prevents Cultist conversion - (Default: Off)
Notes
- If death descriptions or night sequence is enabled, both the Bodyguard and the attacker will be reported as dying from a duel.
- Bodyguards will protect Cultists from the Mason Leader. Both the Bodyguard and the Mason Leader will die in the ensuing duel.
- If a Bodyguard guards a person who visits a Veteran who goes on alert, the Bodyguard will die.
- A Bodyguard will always stay together with a person, that means he visits the same targets his target visits. Since this is the case he wont die through a Mass Murderer who goes on his target, but all other players will do so.
