  • Advanced Roles – Refers to any role that is advanced by definition. Advanced roles are usually far more complex and game-changing than basic roles.
  • Bandwagon – Refers to a follow-the-leader style of vote wherein the majority of players follow the votes of the first one or two – usually referred to when evidence is particularly flimsy.
  • Basic Roles – Refers to any role that is basic by definition. Basic roles are generally more “mundane” but necessary for the game to function smoothly.
  • BD – An acronym for Bus Driver.
  • Benign Roles – Refers to any role that is benign by definition. Benign roles are neutral roles without a specific desire to see any certain faction lose.
  • BG – An acronym for Bodyguard.
  • BM – An acronym for Blackmailer; may also refer to Bad Manners depending on the context.
  • Cit – Also referred to as Civ, a shortened version of Citizen.
  • Claim – Also referred to as Role-Claim, claiming is the act of revealing your role (truthfully or not) to the town.
  • Cleaned – Refers to when a player has been sanitized by a Janitor or Disguiser.
  • Counter-Claim – Refers to pointing out the impossibility of a certain player being the role they just claimed by claiming yourself.
  • Doc – A shortened version of Doctor.
  • Evil Roles – Refers to any role that is evil by definition. Evil roles are neutral roles that wish to see one or all factions die.
  • Framed – Refers to a player that has been investigated and found to be Mafia due to having been targeted by a Framer.
  • GF – An acronym for Godfather
  • Guilty – Can refer to voting to have someone die in a trial or refer to proclaiming a player to be scum.
  • Hammer – Providing the last vote necessary to put a player to trial - Hammering the nail in the coffin.
  • Host – The player that sets up the game
  • Innocent – Can refer to voting to spare a players life in a trial or proclaiming a player to be Town or Benign. Often shortened to Inno.
  • Jan – A shortened version of Janitor
  • Last Will - An in-game function that allows players to leave a message to be displayed when they die.
  • Mod – A moderator of the game, handpicked by Dark Revenant. Moderators have the ability to warn and kick bad-mannered, trolling or people being generally deconstructive to the game.
  • Power Roles – Refers to any role that is power by definition. Power roles have direct influence on the course of the game via their night actions.
  • PM - The in game Private Message system, not to be mistaken with the Blizzard chat system
  • Premade – Also referred to as Private or In-house, a term for a partial or full group of people that joined or created a game together – often via the Mafia channel on Battle.net.
  • Pub – Also referred to as Pubes or Pugs, is a term (frequently derogatory) for players matched into a game by the public match making system or otherwise not part of a premade.
  • Random Lynch – Refers to lynching players without any form of proof. Random lynching is often looked down upon.
  • RB – An acronym for Role-Block, a night action performed by Consorts and Escorts that prevents another player from using their night actions.
  • Scum – Also referred to as Evil, a scum is any role that wishes to see the Town lose.
  • Scumtell - When a Scum says something that reveals their alignment, often subtle and unintended.
  • SK – An acronym for Serial Killer.
  • Spam – Refers to flooding the chat with many aimless messages. Mafia has a spam filter that prevents players from repeatedly sending messages.
  • Support Roles – Refers to any role that is support by definition. Support roles do not have direct influence on the course of the game as their night actions are either severely limited or non-existent. They must influence the game with their own deductions.
  • Trolling – The act of purposely trying to deconstruct the game either by excessive flaming, deliberately trying to lose, completely ignoring the roles, constantly trying to random lynch and so on.
  • Vigi – A shortened version of Vigilante.
  • Witched – Refers to when a player has been manipulated by a Witch.
