Town Strategy

General Town Strategy

Bodyguard

Pick the right target

The key to Bodyguard is similar to the doc: try to predict the nightkills each night or protect the most valuable target each night like a Sheriff or Mayor.

This means that you have to be good at predicting who's gonna get attacked, but when you do protect somebody the rewards are huge: you confirm someone as non-mafia (if you blocked the mafia nightkill), a scum dies, and you die; that's three confirmed alignments right there.

On night 1, try to pick 1 or a colored name. Those players are commonly targeted during the first night. Of course, make sure that you ignore night immunity, otherway you might die protecting scum, while if you ignore the immunity of killers, then you will get rid of a scum, even if you die protecting another.

If there's a confirmed town player, it's almost always the right play to be on them each Night. Also try to determine the patterns of kills - are scum trying to kill lurkers or active townies? Is the SK killing all players who picked a nam with a particular theme?

Another strong play with the bodyguard is to team up with a doctor and be on eacho ther every night. BG-Doc circles are especially powerful during the late game, as you have two town players that can't be killed during the night.

As a bodyguard, always leave a last will stating who you protected each night, this way you can prevent people for claiming being saved when they aren't and also expose cultists, if you got unlucky and killed the Mason Leader while defending one.

Veteran

Know when to alert

The Veteran is one of the most powerful roles in the town: as a veteran, you can single-handedly take out many scum roles, sometimes during a single night.

Try not to look suspicious during the day prior to alerting, since you don't want other townies to visit you. You can instead be a bit rude towards the scum: "Mafia is full of sissies and I'll kill them all" must be the most obvious thing, yet that kind of comments seem to lure mafia most of the time. "Town sucks. Please convert me, cult" can also give some good results. Another great strategy is to claim some sort of invest role just before the day is going to end: "Ok, I'll check # tonight" will grant you at least one kill most of the time.

If you kill a member of the mafia, it's a good idea to publicly claim your role, since the mafia already knows who you are and while keeping it secret might help you get a cult or neutral kill, it's not worth risking killing one or more townies. Claiming your role when you've confirmed one or more kills also confirms you as a townie, then you can ask other players to pm you their roles and start leading the town. This is particularly useful in setups where you have infinite alerts or if you have only alerted once so far. The only downsides to this are kidnappers (who can kill you before you alert) and witches, who may force other townies to suicide on you, so always pay attention to the abilities of your enemies.

Being a great veteran sums up to a couple of things: Knowing when to alert and knowing how to lure the scum.
