Discussion regarding the 2017 Winter Scummies award.
A couple come to mind IMO:
- Iced_Monopoly for Masquerade Madness (disguiser games are always interesting and provided a good variety to the typical setups).
- Cryptonic for Politico (politics is always fun and there were some interesting elements with negative votes, anonymous votes).
- Helz for Instant Mafia (the game mechanic is probably one we should run more often for purposes of improving collective LYLO skills).
The obvious joke selection is the infamous Watermeloann, but other more realistic nominations:
- Slaol (activity levels varied at times, but he was formidable when he posted -- some funny one liners / mock rage as well, like in Election Day).
- Mikecall (always spiced up early games, especially being a possible mislynch, lol -- was generally an agreeable guy too).
I think Iced_Monopoly's Masquerade Madness theme really matched the setup. Really helped set the mood of the game.
I also think Frog's Mean Girls theme was good, because who doesn't like Mean Girls? And he also kept up with his theme the entire game, which I find some hosts fail to due past the setup phase.
Nominate Unknown for his play in Empire. On Night 1, he was attacked by the Neutral Killer and healed by the Doctor, but his role was supposed to be unhealable. The host made an error and did not have him be killed, but he self-reported this mistake to the host, despite it not being beneficial to him (not being able to play anymore) or to his faction (Town being down one player).
Although the Town didn't end up winning (thanks to a quasi-game-thrower that will remain nameless...), I thought BananaCucho's play in Give or Take was very strong, in terms of using WIFOM effectively to protect the Vigilante and helping to ensure that Banana would be in a position to contribute end-game, even while just being a Citizen. There was also some very effective mechanical deductions by Banana in that game which helped limit the scum pool down. There were also a lot of clues given in day chat that the TPRs were able to read, which helped to form an effective Town bloc.
Also, Quick's Town play in Spirits was very good in terms of accurate scumreading and a gambit that threw the scumteam off.

Unfortunately, the time period for this award rules out the promising crop of newcomers from the first Beginner's game. Therefore, I'd nominate Stereo who was a very active mod player for a while, but who made the plunge into FM well over the past 6 months. Unlike many other mod players, he has a serious tone and seems to command a good deal of gravitas. Hopefully, he will continue to be active in games this coming year.
Not a ton of choices since Archons went out of vogue a bit, but I'd nominate Cancer (Banana and SJ) from Mafia Wars, in terms of thematic RP, keeping the game going, strategically engaging players, but ultimately ensuring they were not lynched (despite goading other reactive players) and able to contribute to the Town's eventual win. It was also a good mix of playstyles given both Banana and SJ are capable of being strong active personalities.
Most of these are probably going to come from the MM game, but I'd have to nominate PTB's number of hilarious actions there, from his insistence on people following his role card (all those corrections to "*She") to the obsession with poetry and trying to produce read walls in verse. It wasn't pretty or necessarily good strategy, and it resulted in him being mislynched on Day 1, but it was quite entertaining, lol.
I think Iced_Monopoly has to be in contention here for his body of work over the last 6 months -- both Island Conflict (which had a number of interesting elements in it -- a poisoner type role, a powerful neutral with a range of odd abilities, etc.) and Masquerade Madness (as discussed in another thread, used an interesting disguiser mechanic and had the opportunity for a no-change kill as well). Iced has done a good job at crafting interesting setups that remain faithful to the concept of scumhunting (i.e. they're not too far off base). Both of these games also had good RP as well that supplemented the game mechanics.
Thornholt would be another nomination -- his Lady Death game was highly underrated and it's a bit of shame that he seemed to fade away after that (when he got sick and otherwise). This is sort of a nomination for Most Missed Host vs. Most Missed Player, but both work.
While Calix's Tracer play in Overwatch and Dino's existence attracted a good deal of attention, I have to agree with DarknessB here.
Pity I didn't get to play in MMadness.
So Unknown doesn't fall into thia category? RIP

It's also going to be quuiitee biased : some will get nominated while others don't, and based on the "best of X something-something" it might be overshadowed by this. Let's also look at the Friend v Friend situation, Mod v Mod, or even Rival v Rival, there's bound to be a conflict on nomations.
Based on that you can't nominate without even knowing what happened in the game, it's going to be rather limited by observers and those participating in this game, which lowers the amount even more.
I'd say, add a nominater rewards, to encourage players in doing some actual reading on the games and to promote the amount of nominations.

You can bring up moments about yourself to try to convince people to nominate you. I never said you can't "bribe" people to nominate you, only vote. However, if you're invested enough in these to promote yourself, you should also put in the time to nominate other players.
We have various nominations already.
Just because someone gets nominated once doesn't mean that others will nominate them nor that they will get voted if they do make it through as a finalist.
These are supposed to be fun, not a competition. We are all friends, you shouldn't have any problem nominating anyone.
Since you can nominate an infinite number of Players for a single category, it would be weird not to nominate someone you think is deserving.
This award goes to me.
I miss Sen.
really can't resist, gotta keep her spirit alive
@Panda
Calix and Titus
